Juniors and Masters Competitors must qualify by age on the date of the show (proof of age must be provided at check-in). All competitors will follow NPC rules, guidelines and mandatory poses. Please visit the official NPC site at www.npcnewsonline.com for complete rules and details for your class.
If you are a novice competitor by the definitions listed below, you are not required to compete in a novice class and may choose to do Open/Masters instead or may enter both. Novice classes are only open to those who qualify by these terms:
True Novice Classes – This class is for first time competitors only. If you have ever competed in an NPC competition previously (regardless of division), you are not eligible for True Novice.
Novice Classes – Competitors must not have placed 1st within the division at any contest in a novice, masters or open class previously, in order to qualify as a Novice competitor with the NPC.
It is the competitor’s responsibility to notify us of a change of any change of eligibility due to prior placing.
The top 2 placings in all Open divisions will qualify to compete in any National/Junior National show. Eligibility starts at the date of qualification and is good through the end of the following calendar year (qualifying any time in 2020 is good through the end of 2021).
TRIPLE CROWN QUALIFIER
NEW for 2020! All Northwest NPC shows will award points toward an Open Triple Crown and Masters Triple Crown Award. The Triple Crown Award is presented to athletes who win 1st place in at least 3 different shows in the same calendar year in the Open or Masters classes. Athletes can earn a maximum of 1 Open point and 1 Masters point per show, regardless of division.
The Triple Crown Award presentation will take place at the Northwest Championships in Shelton, WA on November 14. Winners will receive 2 complimentary VIP tickets if they are able to attend. If they can not attend, the award will be shipped to them. Those who achieve the highest total points – Triple Crown Open Champion and Triple Crown Masters Champion – will receive a $500 sponsorship toward any National level event for the following year. In the event of a tie, all placings will be considered for a tie-breaker.
A complete list of participating shows is below. For questions on rules or eligibility for the Triple Crown Award, email ribicproductions@gmail.
Niels Andersen sculptures will be awarded for 1st-5th place in each Open and Masters class. Custom medals will be awarded for 1st-5th place in True Novice, Novice and Mixed Pairs classes. Open class winners will compete for the Overall Award at finals if there is more than one Open class within the division. Team Award will be presented at the conclusion of Finals. Team points are awarded as follows: 1st (5), 2nd (4), 3rd (3), 4th (2), 5th (1). Teams will earn a half point for every team entry not placing Top 5.
Each athlete will be measured at check-in, with the exception of those who are only competing in Bodybuilding or Fitness. Height classes will be divided after check-in to keep class sizes as even as possible.
Our check-in process uses a certified medical device to measure all athletes. Competitors will be placed into the classes they actually measure at, regardless of what is listed on the preliminary roster.
If you’re competing in Men’s Classic Physique, you must not exceed the maximum weight specified for your height. If you come in heavier than the max weight you will have the option of moving to Bodybuilding or Men’s Physique but cannot compete in Classic Physique. No refunds will be given for Classic Physique entries that do not make weight.
Note: Music is for Bodybuilding, Fitness & Women’s Physique and new Classic Men's Physique classes only. All other competitors will walk the stage to house music.
Bodybuilders have a maximum time limit of 60 seconds, Mixed Pairs 90 seconds and Fitness competitors 2 minutes. Absolutely no profanity is allowed and competitors with profanity-laced music will be subject to disqualification.
Music must be submitted by Wednesday before the show. No music will be accepted at check-in.
You will be given a competitor competition wristband at check in. It is to be worn throughout the entire competition and you will wear it on stage as well. It is your pass to get you into the venue and to get you back stage. Each competitor will receive only one at check-in so don’t lose it or take it off. If you misplace your wristband, you will be required to purchase another at $100 (same as trainer’s pass).
Anyone who is not competing MUST have a ticket or trainer’s pass to enter the venue. NO exceptions!
To ensure NPC insurance compliance, trainers who require back-stage access must have a valid NPC card to obtain a trainers pass. Passes are available for purchase in advance at through our Tickets & Merchandise page or can be purchased with cash during check-in. The cost is $100 for the pass and will provide admission to both Prejudging and Finals. No person will be permitted back stage without a trainer’s pass and no pass shall be issued to any person who does not present a valid NPC card.
Due to insurance requirements, weights will not be allowed in the venue (dumbbells or other). Bands will be provided for pumping up. Dream Tan will not be permitted in the venue nor will any SLR style cameras. Except for Fitness, no athlete is permitted to perform flips or handsprings on stage.

Center Stage Tan is our exclusive spray tanner for this event. All competitors should have a competition style tan applied prior to the show. We recommend using Center Stage Tan as their solution is designed specifically for these types of events and they will be on-site for touch ups and assistance. On-site tanning may ONLY be performed by our licensed and insured tanning affiliate.
Trainers may not bring in any airbrush tanning equipment or do any airbrush tanning on the premises! Any trainer tanning their competitor back-stage or in the venue will be removed and the competitor disqualified. We are adamant about this as the tanning creams/sprays can damage the venue.
We get a LOT of questions about the stage layout, setup, etc and would like to reassure everyone that this is not something to stress about. We will cover the layout at the competitor meeting but the most important thing for Figure, Bikini and Wellness competitors is to be comfortable walking in your heels! The stage will be clearly marked with lines and our head expeditor will explain where to go before you step onto the stage. So long as you can walk comfortably, you’ll have no trouble following the arrows on stage. For the judging round: All competitors will file out as a group in their division line-ups. The head judge will call out turns and comparisons. For finals: Figure, Men’s Physique, Bikini and Wellness competitors will be introduced individually and present any two poses of your choice for the audience before returning to back line. Bodybuilders, Classic Men's Physique, Fitness and Women’s Physique competitors will perform individual routines to music before the awards presentation. If time dictates, only the top 5 placings in each class will pose.
All competitors will follow NPC rules, guideline and mandatory poses. For complete guidelines and rules, visit the official site of the NPC: www.npcnewsonline.com Exhibition of poor sportsmanship will be grounds for automatic disqualification.
This division is for females with athletic physique’s that showcase more body mass in the hips, glutes and thigh areas. The upper body is developed but not to the same degree as the lower body. Conditioning is on par with Bikini athletes but will carry more muscle in the lower body. Athletes will perform quarter turns.
Classic Men's Physique classes are divided by height. You must not exceed the maximum weight specified below for your height category. If you come in heavier than the max weight you will have the option of moving to Bodybuilding or Men's Physique but cannot compete in Classic Physique. While we anticipate that most athletes will be accurate in their weight, we find that many over estimate their height and measure in shorter than what they list on the entry form. Under no circumstances will entry fees be refunded for competitors who do not make weight.
Starting 2019, Classic Physique competitors MUST wear the new style Classic posing trunks as shown below. The old style shorts will not be permitted. Competition trunks must be black and no less than 4-1/2 Inches on the sides/hips. They may be purchased here.
Classes will be divided based on entries received.
- 5’ 4” & Under, Max weight 160 lbs
- Over 5’ 4” - 5’ 5” Max weight 165 lbs
- Over 5’ 5” - 5’ 6” Max weight 170 lbs

Figure Classes will have one round of judging, consisting of quarter turns and comparisons in a two-piece swimsuit. Competitors must wear high heels. Swimsuits must be in good taste and thongs and T-back suits are not allowed.
Men’s Physique (original class, not the new “Classic Physique” Class) is similar to a male model search division with the men wearing board shorts. Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity, vascularity and dryness will be marked down. Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts (no spandex and no team or sponsor logos are permitted). Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can successfully convey his personality to the audience. Competitors will walk to the center of the stage alone and perform half (1/2) turns with optional pose of hand on hip or hand in pocket, face the judges as directed then proceed to the side of the stage.
Suit bottoms must be in good taste. No thongs are allowed. Bikini competitors should bring two suits if unsure about your suit because suits cut too low in the front or not providing enough coverage in the rear will be disqualified. Bikini competitors may pose with legs shoulder width apart – NO BENDING FORWARD. Side hip and cross leg poses will still be permitted. We will also go over this at the competitor meeting.
Competitors are judged on symmetry, shape, proportion, muscle tone, poise, and beauty. Excessive muscularity will be scored down accordingly. It is the standard between Women’s Figure and Women’s Bodybuilding. Posing consists of ¼ turns and mandatory poses: front double biceps (no flat footed full front pose) – some sort of front twisting pose, side chest with arms extended, back double arm biceps, side triceps with leg extended and front ab/thigh – all poses must be executed with open hands *no fists (closed hands). Barefoot – no heels. Finals routines are 60 seconds in length.
Each athlete will perform a routine to music, with a maximum time limit of 2 minutes. Judges will be looking for style, personality, athletic ability, strength, flexibility and overall performance. Routines must include the following mandatory moves in no particular order: a push up of any kind, high kicks, a straddle hold and a side split.
Competitors will be brought out in line and perform quarter turns and then mandatories: Front double biceps, front lat spread, side chest (your favorite side), rear double biceps, rear lat spread, side tricep and abdominal/thigh (hands behind your head with one leg extended forward). Prejudging will consist of quarter turns and mandatories only, posing routines will be performed at. Posing routines are 60 seconds in length. Costumes and Props are permitted as long as the props can be carried by the competitor on and off stage. Moon poses are not allowed.
