There have been some changes made to the Novice and True Novice classes for 2018 so read the following carefully.
Please note that if you are a novice competitor by the definitions listed below, you are not required to compete in a novice class and may choose to do Open/Masters instead or may enter both. Novice classes are only open to those who qualify by these terms:
True Novice Classes – This class is for first time competitors only. If you have ever competed in an NPC competition previously (regardless of division), you are not eligible for True Novice.
Novice Classes – Competitors must not have placed 1st at any contest previously in order to qualify as a Novice competitor with the NPC.

Team Award will be presented at the conclusion of Session 2 Finals on Saturday. Team points are awarded as follows: 1st (5), 2nd (4), 3rd (3), 4th (2), 5th (1). Teams will earn a half point for every team entry not placing Top 5.
Most classes are divided by height. For classes to be divided as evenly as possible, it’s imperative that you list an accurate and precise height on your entry form. We find that many over estimate their height and measure in shorter than what they list on the entry form. When measuring yourself, take the following into consideration:
- Measurements are done barefoot and measured to the top of the head, not the top of hair.
- Measurements are taken in the evening. Bear in mind most people shrink between a half and three quarters of an inch throughout the day. Check in takes place between 6-7pm so we recommend measuring yourself in the evening.
- If you’re dehydrated, your discs lose fluid and you may measure shorter yet
Our check-in process uses a certified medical device to measure all athletes. Competitors will be placed into the classes they actually measure at, regardless of what is listed on the preliminary roster.
If you’re competing in Men’s Classic Physique, you must not exceed the maximum weight specified for your height. If you come in heavier than the max weight you will have the option of moving to Bodybuilding or Men’s Physique but cannot compete in Classic Physique. No refunds will be given for Classic Physique entries that do not make weight.
Note: Music is for Bodybuilding, Fitness & Women’s Physique and new Classic Men’s Physique classes only. All other competitors will walk the stage to house music.
Bodybuilders have a maximum time limit of 60 seconds, Mixed Pairs 90 seconds and Fitness competitors 2 minutes. Absolutely no profanity is allowed and competitors with profanity-laced music will be subject to disqualification.
Music must be submitted by 4/17. No music will be accepted at check-in.

Finals – 5:00pm, $35 Reserved Seating – Finals for all classes including posing routines

Anyone who is not competing MUST have a ticket or trainer’s pass to enter the pavilion. NO exceptions!
To ensure NPC insurance compliance, trainers who require back-stage access must have a valid 2018 NPC card and purchase a trainer’s pass during check-in on 4/20. The cost is $100 for the pass (cash only) and will provide admission to both sessions. No person will be permitted back stage without a trainer’s pass and no pass shall be issued to any person who does not present a valid NPC card.
VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHY
Video and photography is provided exclusively by Mark Mason Media. No video cameras are allowed in the pavilion. For pre-orders or other information contact Mark: email@example.com
TANNING, HAIR & MAKE-UP SERVICES
Center Stage Tan (Liquid Sun Rayz solution) is the official tanner for this event. Visit their website to schedule an appointment: Center Stage Tan
Center Stage Tan will also take appointments for hair and make-up services. Your entry fee does not cover spray tanning so be sure to contact directly and schedule with them.
Center Stage Tan will be backstage the day of the show and have an expert staff of licensed estheticians to help you with all of your tanning needs. They use tanning products that are specially formulated for the stage and our lighting. We suggest you make your tanning appointment as soon as possible.
Trainers may not bring in any airbrush tanning equipment or do any airbrush tanning on the premises! Any trainer tanning their competitor back-stage or in the pavilion will be asked to leave and the competitor disqualified. We are adamant about this as the tanning creams/sprays can damage the venue.
DREAM TAN AND COOKING SPRAYS (PAM, ETC) ARE PROHIBITED!
We get a LOT of questions about the stage layout, setup, etc and would like to reassure everyone that this is not something to stress about. We will cover the layout at the competitor meeting but the most important thing for Figure, Bikini and Fitness competitors is to be comfortable walking in your heels! The stage will be clearly marked with lines and our head expeditor will explain where to go before you step onto the stage. So long as you can walk comfortably, you’ll have no trouble following the arrows on stage. For the judging round: All competitors will file out as a group in their division line-ups. The head judge will call out turns and comparisons. For finals: Figure, Men’s Physique and Bikini competitors will be introduced individually and present any two poses of your choice for the audience before returning to back line. Bodybuilders, Classic Men’s Physique, Fitness and Women’s Physique competitors will perform individual routines to music before the awards presentation. If time dictates, only the top 5 placings in each class will pose.
All competitors will follow NPC rules, guideline and mandatory poses. For complete guidelines and rules, visit the official site of the NPC: www.npcnewsonline.com Exhibition of poor sportsmanship will be grounds for automatic disqualification.
Please note that, as of 9/1/2017, back flips and back handsprings will not be permitted except for in Women’s Fitness routines. Any competitor performing these maneuvers on stage will be immediately disqualified.
CLASSIC MEN’S PHYSIQUE
Classic Men’s Physique classes are divided by height. You must not exceed the maximum weight specified below for your height category. If you come in heavier than the max weight you will have the option of moving to Bodybuilding or Men’s Physique but cannot compete in Classic Physique. While we anticipate that most athletes will be accurate in their weight, we find that many over estimate their height and measure in shorter than what they list on the entry form. Please refer to the “Height Measurement” portion of the Competitor Info page so you can accurately check your height and enter the correct class. Complete details on classes and posing at: www.npcnewsonline.com
Under no circumstances will entry fees be refunded for competitors who do not make weight.

Figure Classes will have one round of judging, consisting of quarter turns and comparisons in a two-piece swimsuit. Competitors must wear high heels. Swimsuits must be in good taste and thongs and T-back suits are not allowed.
Men’s Physique (original class, not the new “Classic Physique” Class) is similar to a male model search division with the men wearing board shorts. Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity, vascularity and dryness will be marked down. Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts (no spandex and no team or sponsor logos are permitted). Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can successfully convey his personality to the audience. Competitors will walk to the center of the stage alone and perform half (1/2) turns with optional pose of hand on hip or hand in pocket, face the judges as directed then proceed to the side of the stage.
Suit bottoms must be in good taste. No thongs are allowed. Bikini competitors should bring two suits if unsure about your suit because suits cut too low in the front or not providing enough coverage in the rear will be disqualified. UPDATE: Please note that the “Straddle” pose WILL be permitted at this event. As of 2016 BIkini competitors may pose with legs shoulder width apart – NO BENDING FORWARD. Side hip and cross leg poses will still be permitted. We will also go over this at the competitor meeting.
Competitors are judged on symmetry, shape, proportion, muscle tone, poise, and beauty. Excessive muscularity will be scored down accordingly. It is the standard between Women’s Figure and Women’s Bodybuilding. Posing consists of ¼ turns and mandatory poses: front double biceps (no flat footed full front pose) – some sort of front twisting pose, side chest with arms extended, back double arm biceps, side triceps with leg extended and front ab/thigh – all poses must be executed with open hands *no fists (closed hands). Barefoot – no heels. Finals routines are 60 seconds in length.
Each athlete will perform a routine to music, with a maximum time limit of 2 minutes. Judges will be looking for style, personality, athletic ability, strength, flexibility and overall performance. Routines must include the following mandatory moves in no particular order: a push up of any kind, high kicks, a straddle hold and a side split.
Competitors will be brought out in line and perform quarter turns and then mandatories: Front double biceps, front lat spread, side chest (your favorite side), rear double biceps, rear lat spread, side tricep and abdominal/thigh (hands behind your head with one leg extended forward). Prejudging will consist of quarter turns and mandatories only, posing routines will be performed at. Posing routines are 60 seconds in length. Costumes and Props are permitted as long as the props can be carried by the competitor on and off stage. Moon poses are not allowed.
